Based just outside Philadelphia (Penn.), Upper Darby FC begins UPSL play in the Northeast Conference, and will host its home games at Ardmore Avenue School (161 Ardmore Ave., Lansdowne, PA 19050) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.
United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "We continue to grow with quality clubs in the Philadelphia area. We're pleased to welcome to welcome Upper Darby FC to the UPSL Northeast Conference. This is a club inspired by its community and it's been able to turn into an inspiration for its community. We wish Upper Darby FC success as it gets set to kick off this Spring."
Sheku Sillah, 35, is President of Upper Darby FC. A Registered Nurse, Sillah is a native of Philadelphia.
Upper Darby FC President Sheku Sillah said, "We have been looking to move up because we've improved to the point where we're significantly better than the competition. We want more from our games and our competition and we've been hearing so many good things about the UPSL that we had to get in at the start of the first Northeast season."
Formed as community engagement project, the clubs' most talented players were being scouted by other clubs so Upper Darby FC entered into Philadelphia's popular CASA soccer league and currently plays in its first division. The club also has become a regular at the USASA East PA State Cup and other regional tournaments throughout the northeast.
"We have a really strong base and a core of young guys that fit very well together," Sillah said. "They've proven to be very talented and very formidable, and we think we can compete with the best Pro Development teams anywhere."
Mohamed Mansaray, 26, is the team's Head Coach. Alpha Kanu, 22, is the team's current captain.
Upper Darby FC soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
