By: AKG of America "Continuous improvement of our employees, facilities and equipment has always been an important part of our success," says Ron Prichard, vice president of AKG America. "We are grateful to have this opportunity to further improve the knowledge of our employees. In addition to advancing the company, this training will help create a more competitive environment to attract other employers to North Carolina." Training began in November 2017 and will continue through July 2019. AKG's goal is to expand its culture of learning within the company. All employees will participate in base-level training. Those most interested will have the opportunity to participate in multiple programs. Continuing education courses offered through the two-year grant include: · Six Sigma, White Belt Lean · Communication and team building · Coaching and leadership · Advanced Microsoft Office · Train the trainer · On-the-job training · Programmable logic controllers (PLC) and electronics troubleshooting · APICS certified in production and inventory management (CPIM) · Customer service best practices The concept for this training grant grew during planning discussions with local officials for AKG's new research and development center. Doug Aitkin, director from Durham Technical Community College and Prichard developed the program and secured state funding.
