Follow on Google News | Illinois Bicentennial Commission Names Summer Place Theatre an Official ProjectBy: Summer Place Theatre Each Summer Place production this year has ties to the state, especially the Spring Musical Revue which is an original creation with words and music specific to Illinois. As an official Bicentennial Project, Summer Place has a listing on the state's website and inclusion in its announcements and programs. The season begins with an original musical review, "By Thy Rivers Gently Flowing," which celebrates Illinois history and citizens, and continues with "Bleacher Bums," "Sugar" and "Footloose, the Musical!." "By Thy Rivers Gently Flowing" is named for the state song celebrates Illinois' origins, its role in the wars, the underground railroad, Presidents from the state and more through songs and narration by a dozen talented community members During the regular summer season, Summer Place will present "Bleacher Bums," a comedy about fans in the Wrigley Field bleachers, created by Chicago's own Joe Mantegna (TV's "Criminal Minds"). "Bleacher Bums" runs June 8 - 10 and again June 15 - 17. Next is "Sugar," the musical based on the comedy "Some Like It Hot" about two men wanted by mobsters in Chicago who hide in an all-women's touring band. "Sugar" starts the weekend of June 29, skips a weekend for Ribfest, and runs again July 13 - 15. The final big show is "Footloose, the Musical!" in which teenaged Ren leaves Chicago for a small town where dancing is forbidden. Look forward to seeing many great young dancers! "Footloose" runs July 27 - 29 and Aug. 3 -5. All performances are held in the Naperville Central High School Auditorium.
