A Financially Literate Future is Within Our Reach

Jump$tart Coalition Will Kick off Financial Literacy Month in April
By: Jumpstart Coalition
WASHINGTON - March 8, 2018 - PRLog -- The Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and its partners are on a mission to create a financially literate future (#afinlitfuture) and believe it is "Within our Reach."

Financial Literacy Month (#FLM18), sometimes also referred to as Financial Capability Month, has been celebrated each April since 2000. Throughout the month, events and activities focus on raising public awareness about the importance of financial literacy and the need for financial education, celebrate individual and collective achievements in the effort, and address new and evolving issues in the field. This year, the Jump$tart Coalition will focus its events using the theme: "Within our Reach: #afinlitfuture."

"Over the past 20 years, we have made great strides laying the groundwork for effective financial education and financial literacy awareness," said Laura Levine, Jump$tart Coalition president and CEO. "With our partners, affiliates, parents, teachers, schools and many others working together, I do believe a financially literate future for our nation's youth is within our reach."

Financial Literacy Month, which was originally promoted by Jump$tart, is recognized across the country by organizations large and small, with a wide variety of event and initiatives that focus on financial education and financial literacy. The Jump$tart Coalition's two premier events – its Annual Awards Dinner and Hill Day – also bring together the financial literacy community to collaborate, network, and demonstrate the coalition's collective strength and commitment.

Annual Awards Dinner

The Jump$tart Coalition on April 10 will recognize leadership and outstanding achievement in the effort to advance student financial literacy at its 2018 Annual Awards Dinner at the JW Marriott Washington, D.C. A reception begins at 6 p.m. and dinner and awards at 7 p.m. This year the coalition will recognize:

– William E. Odom Visionary Leadership Award – Tim Ranzetta, founder, Next Gen Personal Finance
– Federal Leadership Award – U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.)  and U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio-3)
– Innovation Award – Funding the Future
– State Coalition of the Year – Jump$tart Washington

Hill Day

More than 50 organizations – from the business, finance, nonprofit, association, government and academic sectors – will gather on Capitol Hill to illustrate the importance of financial literacy.

Thanks to this year's honorary co-hosts U.S. Sens. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill (Hill Day, #FLHillDay2018) is slated for April 12 from noon to 3 p.m. in Hart Senate Office Building Room 902.

The event is open to the public; a free buffet lunch begins at noon with remarks by Sen. Reed and Reps. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) and Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio-3). Event sponsors, to date, are GM Financial, the LendingTree Foundation, the National Credit Union Foundation and Visa.

Neither tickets nor a reservation is needed to attend Hill Day. Learn more at jumpstart.org/hillday.
