They Say the Entertainment Industry is a Man's Game

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - March 6, 2018 - PRLog -- Kansas City, MO, – Boyish, Kansas City's newest startup, announced today the launch of its digital media company which showcases the work of female storytellers around the world. Some may say the entertainment industry is a man's game but Boyish plans to change the rules of play.

The digital media platform, which was designed as a signal of change for female voices heard in the entertainment industry, and a destination where people can watch content and learn about the women who have worked so hard on their creations. Boyish wants a place where women can encourage each other, collaborate and celebrate the creative power they possess.

"The entertainment industry is still a man's world and is a hard reality for women in Hollywood," said Boyish founder, Megan Weissenstein. "The lack of progress for females behind the camera is astounding. This is why we created Boyish. Our hope is that our platform will generate exposure for talented female storytellers and increase their chances for new opportunities. There isn't a lack of women in the industry, just a lack of opportunities," said Weissenstein.

Boyish will be showcasing some amazing storytellers such as:

·       Quinn Shephard, whose first feature-length screenplay, BLAME, was selected          as a finalist for the Sundance 2014 Screenwriters Lab.

·       Alex Burunova (http://cargocollective.com/alexburunova/About-Alex-Buruno...), who was hand-picked by Lifetime/A&E's new digital network to helm their series, MEASUREMENTS.

·       Morgan Dameron (http://www.morgandameron.com/), whose first feature film, DIFFERENT FLOWERS, starring and produced by Emmy-Award-winner Shelley Long (CHEERS, TROOP BEVERLY HILLS) premiered to sold-out audiences at the 2017 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

According to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film (https://womenintvfilm.sdsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/2017_Celluloid_Ceiling_Report.pdf), women comprised only 11% of all directors working on the top 250 films of 2017. But despite the current dialogue around diversity and inclusion in the film industry, Hollywood remains an industry dominated by men. This is why, long term, Boyish hopes to find partners who can fund projects that live on the platform and create new opportunities for women behind the camera.
