Follow on Google News | ![]() The GroovaLottos' Downtown Phunk Party Was A Soul RevivalWith most of Cape Cod still in a blackout after Friday's storm, the Phunk Party was in Welfleet and the dance floor was packed. Band members and fans say that this is a testament to the power of The Phunk.
By: Song Keepers, Ltd On the way to the show, the band's trailer -otherwise referred to as the Phunk Wagon- made its way across the cape, passing towns and villages that were still without power, only to be greeted by a sea of lights when they got to Eastham. The band wondered if the show was going to be a bust, only to arrive at the hall and find out that people had been calling the venue all day to find out if the show was still happening. "We were still doing sound check and they had to open the house because there were so many folks waiting to get in. Early arrivals got treated to a funky blues jam. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is not the show," Mwalim announced to the growing audience, who were bobbing and grooving to the warm-up. At 7:30 he announced, "Now it's the show..." Opening with their mid-tempo bolero, "Ever So Close", the enthusiastic audience found their way onto the dance floor by the second song in and it stayed that way until the end of the show. "I had to come tonight. These guys had me dancing in the streets of Provincetown this summer, so I had to get a taste of that!" said one fan at the intermission.
