BOSTON - March 4, 2018 - PRLog -- The Boston Turkish Film Festival continues to present films by leading and emerging Turkish filmmakers as its 17th edition is set to run from March 22nd to April 8th at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The festival will kick off with the North America premiere of acclaimed director Tayfun Pirselimoglu's darkly beautiful fim "Sideway", about a seaside town where ominous signs lead the townsfolk to believe that doomsday has arrived.

The Boston Turkish Film Festival Excellence in Turkish Cinema Award is celebrating its 12th year. This year's recipient, prominent actor, author, screenplay writer and director Ercan Kesal, will be presented his award at a ceremony at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston after screening of "Sideway" (Yol Kenarı) where he is a cast member. This will be the North America premiere of the film.  There will be also a documentary in the program directed by Ercan Kesal, "Gone with the Hazelnuts" (Fındıktan Sonra) followed by a Q&A with the director.

The festival will offer a vast array of films in terms of their themes, most of the films will be making their North American and US premieres. Q&A sessions with filmmakers will follow screenings.

The following feature films are in the festival program: "Sideway" (Yol Kenarı) by Tayfun Pirselimoğlu, "Yellow Heat" (Sarı Sıcak) by Fikret Reyhan, "Gone with the Hazelnuts" (Fındıktan Sonra) by Ercan Kesal,  "Rosso Istanbul" (İstanbul Kırmızısı) by Ferzan Özpetek,  "Big Big World" (Koca Dünya) by Reha Erdem, "The Guest (Aleppo-Istanbul)" (Misafir (Halep-Istanbul)) by Andaç Haznedaroğlu ,"Ayla – The Daughter of War" by Sıtkı Can Ulkay,"Murtaza" by Özgür Sevimli, "NUBLU: Music of Now" by Sercan Sezgin, "Sour Apples" (Ekşi Elmalar) by Yılmaz Erdoğan,  "The Smell of Money" (Paranın Kokusu) by Ahmet Boyacıoğlu,  In the Fade (Aus dem Nichts)  by Fatih Akın, "What a Crush" (Ailecek Şaşkınız) by Selçuk Aydemir, Dream (Rüya) by Derviş Zaim.

Award-winning films of the Boston Turkish Festival's Documentary and Short Film Competition will also be screened at the festival.  Winners of the Documentary Film Competition are "The Border" (Hudut) by Batuhan Kurt for Best Documentary and "Hermana" by Enver Arcak for Best Documentary Audience Awards. Winners of the Short Film Competition are "Scrabble" by Merve Gezen for Best Short Film and "The Well" (Kuyu) by Rıdvan Yavuz for Best Short Film Audience Awards. A panel discussion with the filmmakers follow the screenings, moderated by Boston Globe film critic Peter Keough.
