Costa Mesa Resident Honored For Outstanding Services To Patients

SANTA ANA, Calif. - March 1, 2018 - PRLog -- Costa Mesa resident Pat Moechel is the recipient of Fairhaven Memorial Park & Mortuary's January/February 2018 Oliver Halsell Care Award, a program introduced in 2012 to pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional care in their profession and community, improving the lives and spirits of those they help.

Moechel was first introduced to caregiving when her late husband was diagnosed with emphysema, a chronic, irreversible disease of the lungs. At the time, she was a lingerie store manager in Santa Monica. The thought of a career change lingered in the back of her mind until she finally took the plunge in 2015 and joined Newport Beach-based in-home care agency Caring Companions at Home.

"Individuals like Pat are the reason why we started this program," said Rod Gomez, General Manager of Fairhaven. "There are many unsung heroes in our community who go on diligently with their daily tasks, bettering the lives of others, that deserve to be praised and recognized for their dedication."

Moechel was nominated by Caring Companions at Home CEO and Founder Diane Mondini, who commended her dedication, kindness and energy. A senior herself, Moechel does not slow down and assists her current 94-year-old patient with tasks ranging from meal preparation and bathing to outings and preparing for bed time.

In November 2018, Moechel will be presented with an award at the Oliver Halsell Care Awards ceremony at Fairhaven's Mission Viejo facility. The award banquet will recognize Moechel and five other honorees. Additionally, Fairhaven will make a donation on her behalf to her chosen charity, March of Dimes.

"I'm very proud to be recognized," said Moechel. "I take my job very seriously and always take care of my patients the way I wish to be treated, like they are part of my family. I find it rewarding to try and keep people happy."

Fairhaven is accepting nominations for the remainder of 2018 to recognize other outstanding individuals whose kindness and dedication to serving others is inspirational. Fairhaven's Oliver Halsell Care Award winners come from many fields including private care, hospice, social work, counseling, assisted living, medical providers, nursing, therapy, volunteer work and more.
