Mondo's indoor portable banked track to serve as competition surface for IAAF World Indoor Championships
BIRMINGHAM, England - March 1, 2018 - PRLog -- Once again, when the world's best athletes come together for an international track and field competition, they'll have a Mondo track underfoot. During the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships here today through March 4, the competition surface will be Mondo's portable banked track. More than 400 athletes from 150 countries are expected to compete, making it one of the most significant sporting events of the year.
The Birmingham Arena track was built in 1991 and served as the competition track of the Indoor World Athletics Championships in 2003. The portable banked system is set up at least once a year in the arena for national and international athletics events. Following each event, the system is dismantled and stored. After 27 years of use, the track and structure are still in perfect condition and are ready to be center stage at the upcoming championships.
Mondo also is supplying the athletic equipment for the event.
Highly configurable, Mondo's portable banked track features two curved track sections that can be banked for high-speed running events. This allows athletes to achieve their best possible times by letting them safely maintain their speed around curves.
With its claw-locking mechanism, the structure's frame can be assembled and disassembled quickly and easily with no screws or bolts, guaranteeing consistent tightness and perfect dimensional accuracy, installation after installation. The process can be completed in a few short days. Once disassembled, the track is easily stored in a warehouse, and the entire area can be used for other purposes.
All of Mondo's portable track solutions are designed with fully adjustable structures to guarantee quick assembly and compliance with international regulations, even when the supporting surface is not state-of-the-
