Disneyland Star Wars Expansion Affects Anaheim Hotels

ANAHEIM, Calif. - March 1, 2018 - PRLog -- In 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm, and with it the Star Wars franchise, for $4 billion. Shortly after, The Force Awakens movie was released in 2015, Rogue One was released in 2016, and The Last Jedi movie was released in 2017. This is just another chapter in a long history between Disney and Lucasfilm.

George Lucas was the executive producer of Captain EO, which is a 1986 American 3D science fiction film starring Michael Jackson and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film was shown for the final time at Epcot on December 6, 2015. Leveraging this existing relationship, Disney approached Lucas to help design and develop Star Tours. Star Tours, a ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, first opened in January 1987. The ride was designed as an interactive ride simulator based on the Star Wars universe. The Last Tour to Endor was closed at Disney's Epcot Center in Florida in September 2010.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

This has set the stage for a new chapter in the Star Wars / Disney Saga - Star War's: Galaxy's Edge. This 14-acre Star Wars land is the largest single-themed expansion ever built at Disneyland. The billion-dollar project is under construction and expected to be completed by summer of 2019.
