Nonprofit, Sweet Dreamzzz, Inc., is ready for National Sleep Awareness Week

LIVONIA, Mich. - Feb. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- National Sleep Awareness Week is coming up and along with it, daylight savings time. Local nonprofit, Sweet Dreamzzz™, isn't missing out on this chance to spread the word about the importance of healthy sleep. The organization will first hold a corporate Lunch-and-Learn and then provide a R.E.M. (Rest. Educate. Motivate.) Sleep Program. Next stop will be to New York City to work on a National Institute of Health research grant designed to spread its Early Childhood Sleep Education Program™ throughout the city.

ISCG, an interior design company for workplaces, will be receiving the Sweet Dreamzzz Lunch-and-Learn on Monday, March 5. The employees will participate in a program that parallels the organization's Parent Sleep Education Workshop, giving them the knowledge to get better sleep and spread the word to others. ISCG recently donated 10 brand new office chairs to Sweet Dreamzzz as part of their "40 Chairs for Chair-ity" contest.

The 788 K-6 students of Thorne Elementary School in Dearborn Heights will receive the R.E.M. Sleep Program on Wednesday, March 7. This 30-minute program presents the importance of a good night's sleep and the dos and don'ts of a good bedtime routine. All students will receive a R.E.A.D.Y.™ bedtime routine magnet, a toothbrush and toothpaste. Additionally, each teacher will receive a classroom poster, student workbook pages and a bedtime bingo kit to reinforce the lessons learned.

"As educators, we understand that sleep is a vital component of child development and wanted to be able to share this information with our parents and students in a fun and engaging format," says Rita Morris, Counselor at Thorne Elementary School.

Following daylight savings, Sweet Dreamzzz will spend National Sleep Awareness Week, in New York City, expanding the reach of its sleep education. As part of a five-year grant, the nonprofit is working with the National Institute of Health and Albert Einstein University to implement its Early Childhood Sleep Education Program in Head Start centers around the Big Apple.

"We will be attending and presenting at the two-day S.L.E.E.P. summit in New York on Wednesday, March 14, and Thursday, March 15," says Sweet Dreamzzz Director of Sleep Programs, Ann Raftery. "The purpose of the summit is to prepare for the launch of the Sleep Literacy Education Empowerment Project (S.L.E.E.P.), a five-year National Institute of Health funded project. This event will cover study management, parent and staff motivation, mock parent training, research challenges and project materials. Attendees are agency directors and staff from seven New York Head Start agencies."

Friday, March 16, is World Sleep Day. How will you celebrate?
