SPOKANE, Wash. - Feb. 27, 2018 - PRLog -- Inland Asphalt Company won four Quality in Construction Awards for asphalt pavement from NAPA (National Asphalt Pavement Association).

"I'm proud of our team at Inland," Ric Linares, CRH Americas Materials Northwest Region President said. "They continue to set a high standard of performance and it's great to see them recognized for their quality workmanship and materials."

Inland Asphalt Co., won two awards for their work on Interstate 82 in Benton County, as well as State Route 14 in Kittitas County and West Hawthorne Road in Spokane County. In all four instances, Inland Asphalt Co. exceeded expectations while producing a high-quality pavement.

I-82 Mile West of Benton City to I-182 consisted of a mill and overlay of seven miles with two lanes in each direction. The two main challenges for this project were safety and keeping the flow of traffic running smoothly. Inland Asphalt successfully worked with the Washington Department of Transportation to reduce the speed of traffic, which helped overcome both concerns.

I-82 Yakima River to Yakitat Road included a mill and overlay over five miles with two lanes in each direction. The main challenge the team faced was paving approximately three thousand tons of asphalt each day during one lane closures. The trucks would bring the hot-mix asphalt and then travel ahead of the paver in order to receive the grindings from the grinder and take it back to the plant 25 miles away.

The SR 14 Emergency Repairs project involved repairing a roadway that had deteriorated due to harsh winter conditions. The closest asphalt plant was 100 miles away from the project. The distance made it difficult to haul material and keep it fresh for paving. Inland Asphalt managed to provide a high quality paving crew and product to achieve results in ten days, utilizing 35 trucks.

The majority of the West Hawthorne Road project needed to be finished before school began, because the road ran through the campus of Whitworth University. The project included: a demolition and full excavation of existing roadway, selected removal of existing curb and gutter, replacement of all drainage structures, and extensive landscaping. Inland Asphalt worked closely with the University to accomplish each task. Inland Asphalt used reclaimed asphalt pavement from the existing roadway and employed warm mix asphalt paving techniques to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"The asphalt pavement industry is committed to building high-quality projects that deliver superior performance to the traveling public," Dan Gallagher, 2017 NAPA Chairman said in a press release. "All contractors' projects earning a Quality in Construction award are measured against best practices designed to live up to that commitment. Earning the Quality in Construction Award demonstrates that Inland Asphalt has met or exceeded these rigorous standards."
