Follow on Google News | Sleepy Little Tequesta, Florida, Waking Up to the Buzz of the Oceana Coffee CompanyLocal Organic Coffee Roaster Creates Some of the Finest Coffees in the World and Sells by the Cupful and Bagful to Retail and Wholesale Customers
By: Oceana Coffee company "I just couldn't find a decent cup of coffee," says the husband-half of the highly caffeinated husband-wife team of Oceana Coffee company. "So I made my own." World travelers Scott and Amy Angelo knew great tasting coffee and knew where to find it; it just wasn't nearby. So Scott, a big DIYer, bought a popcorn popper from eBay for $25, converted it into a coffee roaster, procured some raw high-quality whole beans and voila—Oceana Coffee was born. In just a few years, Scott and Amy's morning cup-o-Joe has expanded into a full-scale roasting facility, wholesale gourmet coffee company, and a puffy-furnitured retail cafe not unlike the big chains, although VERY unlike the big chains. "We've been focusing on taste, of course," says Amy, wife-half of the coffee-slinging couple and marketing extraordinaire. "But we're also passionate about the planet, sustainability, fair trade practices and the healthful aspects of what we do. As it turns out, there are a lot of folks like us who want a great cup of coffee and care where it comes from." The grass roots approach, says Amy, is paying off. Accolades are quickly spreading beyond South Florida as Palm Beach County visitors and snowbirds get a taste, get hooked and get a hankering for more Oceana Coffee back home. "We've got wholesale and retail customers nationwide now who order from us online," she says, "and solely on our flavor and reputation." Although Oceana Coffee counts on its unmatched taste derived from fresh organic whole beans procured from small farms in a number of countries along the equator—farms with rich nutrient-dense soil—the small-batch roaster can be found at virtually every event in town. "Advertising is great, but there's no guarantee," says Amy. "If we can get some of our coffee in your mouth, though, you'll be back."
