1/3 of people in the UK are massively underestimating calories, educogym Canary Wharf analyse

According to analysis of National data, brits are underestimating the number of calories they are eating, leading to a dangerous rise in obesity – educogym Canary Wharf discover why.

CANARY WHARF, U.K. - Feb. 20, 2018 - PRLog -- The data suggests that British men eat more than 3000 calories a day, but claim to eat around 2000, and women eat about 2500 but claim to be 1000 less at 1500 calories. "Men are on average to have around 2500 calories a day and women 2500, the problem with massive underestimating is obvious, brits are consuming way more than they realise which if course leads to obesity, and all the health issues that come with being overweight" explained Godfrey Nurse, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer. But what we really want to know, is how this large number is being so wrongly miscalculated by the population.

"The study of more than 4,000 people looked at energy expenditure and self-reporting information on food eaten, although it is common to under report in a survey like this, it is still even more common to eat more calories than you realise, at educogym Canary Wharf we have tailored meal plans and nutrition that means our clients can avoid counting calories as we work everything all out for them, however the rule of thumb in the UK is 600 calories for lunch and dinner, and 400 for breakfast, so if you have an inactive day or indulge in snacks you don't over do it on the calories" explained Godfrey Nurse, personal trainer at educogym Canary Wharf.

But why is it so common to over eat or under estimate calorie intake? "One of the main problems is forgetting what you eat, a handful of nuts or a cookie off someone's desk can easily be forgotten, but the calories can soon add up, or under estimating the calories in something you eat. Those that eat out, most restaurants don't give you the calorie content of the meals you are eating, or they give you huge portion sizes without accurate calorie information" confirmed Godfrey Nurse, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer "portion size is also a huge issue at home, with many people serving up huge portions, and in particular large portions of the high calorie foods like carbohydrates, when in fact a few small spoonful's should be enough, with  your plate consisting of more greens and protein"

What can be done to help avoid these issues? "when eating out, if the restaurant does have calorie information then use it, go for the lower calorie option especially as drinks and sides can really add up, keeping your main meal low in calories leaves room for a few sides without taking you over, keep note of your snacks, it's so common to forget that drinks like alcohol and orange juice have calories, a large glass of wine can have as many calories as a donut, so limiting alcohol is important too, and lastly keeping an eye on packets and portions is vital, as many products can surprise you with just how many calories they have in them" explained Godfrey Nurse, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer
