Kinetic Technologies Over-Voltage IC Protects System Components with Simple, Small Switch

KTS1670: Adjustable over-voltage protection switch in a 2 x 2 mm UDFN-8 package

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Feb. 8, 2018 - PRLog -- Silicon Valley-based Kinetic Technologies announced the launch of KTS1670, the latest addition to its ever-growing over-voltage protection portfolio. The new solution is a flexible, externally adjustable protection switch in a small 2 x 2 mm UDFN-8 package that can protect any adapter-powered equipment from abnormal input voltages.

KTS1670 offers the latest in system protection innovation, including the industry's smallest package, lowest RDS(on), and a fast response time of 100ns. The low RDS(on) minimizes the voltage drop from IN to OUT, keeping heat dissipation at a minimum and ensuring there is no significant reduction in the equipment operating voltage. The solution also supports enhanced input ESD protection and self-protects the equipment at the input supply. With an input voltage range from 2.5V to 28V, plus the ability to set the protection shut-off voltage up to 20V, the KTS1670 covers a wide range of equipment with a single component.

Phil Dewsbury, senior director of the Enterprise Systems Division in the Kinetic Technologies Marketing group, says, "Consumers are faced with a multitude of power supply wall adapters that all look the same and use a similar output connector. As a result, it's easy to pick up and plug in the wrong connector, which can cause irreversible equipment failure." He continues, "inserting the KTS1670 between the equipment input supply connector and the electronic circuitry can prevent unsafe voltage from damaging any downstream components."

Key applications for Kinetic Technologies' KTS1670 include products powered or charged by an external adapter: Smartphones, set-top boxes, point of sales terminals, printers and internet of things (IoT) devices.

Don't risk equipment failure. Keep your system safe with over-voltage protection by Kinetic Technologies.
