JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 5, 2018 - PRLog -- Learn to Read Jacksonville (http://www.learntoreadjax.org/) is relocating its administrative offices and all Main Library classes and labs to the Jessie Ball duPont Center (http://www.dupontcenter.org/). The move is the result of continued growth and expansion within the organization and will help Learn to Read continue to provide award-winning educational services to its students. The first lab and new facility is open to students and volunteers today, February 5, 2018.

The Jessie Ball duPont Center rents offices to nonprofits and gathering spaces to members of the community in an effort to bring the two together. The Center is located at 40 East Adams Street, two blocks from Learn to Read's current office at the Main Library in downtown Jacksonville. Both street and garage parking are available to employees and visitors of the organization. The new location is easily accessible by bus, with several JTA routes traveling to a nearby stop.

"We are excited to announce this next chapter for Learn to Read and are forever grateful for our years spent with the Jacksonville Public Library," said Judy Bradshaw, executive director of Learn to Read. "Our space in the Jessie Ball duPont Center will allow us the room to continue expanding the services provided through our adult basic education classes and help transform the lives of adult non-readers, their families and our community."

The move is funded in part by a $16,000 grant from the Jim Moran Foundation. Funds from the grant will also be used to purchase updated technology, educational materials and other supplies for Learn to Read's students and staff.

As part of the expansion, Learn to Read is seeking members of the community to fill board positions. Candidates have the opportunity to use their skills to benefit the organization and the community it serves. Interested applicants should contact Bradshaw at judybltr@gmail.com or call (904) 238-9000 for more information.

In Duval County, one in five adults read at or below a sixth grade level. Learn to Read was established in 1969 with the mission to improve adult literacy in Jacksonville. Over the past 48 years, the organization has expanded its services to include math classes, financial and medical literacy, employment training and a Duval County jails program, which helps to rehabilitate inmates through improved literacy. Dedicated tutors work with Learn to Read students to increase literacy and improve life skills that help unlock a new world of possibilities for them, their families and the community. In 2016 [TM1] alone, Learn to Read provided services to 550 students, with 14,517 hours of study completed. The Florida Literacy Coalition named Learn to Read the recipient of its 2016 Excellence in Education award.
