LAS VEGAS - Feb. 2, 2018 - PRLog -- In desert communities where it is hot and there is little water, even the slightest period of drought can threaten the water supply to the point of needing conservation efforts put into place.  This is certainly the case in Las Vegas, where our primary source of water is Lake Mead.  Previous to the Hoover Dam being built, there was nearly no water in the area for many miles, making it quite difficult to maintain a residence here.  The city itself began as a stopover where travelers could find some comfort during their long trips across the desert on their way to California, but the thought of Las Vegas growing into a huge community probably made no sense back then.  There simply was not enough water to sustain a large population, and it was too difficult to get it here to consider it.  Hoover Dam created a situation where there was enough water to sustain even a large population of people, and as a result Las Vegas was able to grow.

Drought conditions can reduce our levels of water stored in Lake Mead down to a point that is dangerous for our community, where the possibility of not having enough water for everyone to drink becomes real.  In these cases, we need to conserve the water we have, and most times this means cutting back on water wasting elements like grass lawns.  Grass will consume up to 55 gallons of water a year per square foot just to stay green, so it is probably not a good idea for a community that needs that water for it's citizens.  This is why Clark County suggests desert landscaping or some form of ground covering that needs no water.  If you absolutely must have that patch of green outside your window, look into synthetic grass or artificial turf to get the look you want.  It saves water and looks just like real grass, so you can be a good member of the community and still have the look that you want.  For information on artificial turf, contact Desert Greenscapes today at http://lvturf.com/synthetic-turf/.
