LOS ANGELES - Feb. 2, 2018 - PRLog -- The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce St. Petersburg Football Club Aztecs as a new member starting with the 2018 Spring Season.

Based in 'The Sunshine City', St. Petersburg FC begins UPSL play in the Central Florida Conference, and will host its home games at Shorecrest Preparatory School (5101 1st St. NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33703) in compliance with UPSL Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "St. Petersburg is such a key market and everyone knows Florida is one of America's soccer hotbeds, so we're very pleased to welcome St. Petersburg FC Aztecs to the UPSL's Florida Conference. St. Petersburg FC Aztecs is the next step for a club with 30 years of history, and we think the leaders behind this effort are going to do a terrific job for soccer in the community. We wish St. Petersburg FC Aztecs every success as they prepare to kick off this Spring."

Florida native Sean Hampsey, 30, is Club President. An Aztecs player since 2010. Hampsey currently is a consultant for The Sports Facilities Advisory, a national firm focused on the planning, funding, development and management of recreation facilities, sports tourism complexes and multi-purpose adventure destinations.

St. Petersburg FC Aztecs President Sean Hampsey said, "We want to continue to grow our reach into the grassroots soccer community because that's our model and that's what we're passionate about, and we think the UPSL is a perfect fit for us as we continue to take this next step. Everyone has always referred to us as 'The Aztecs' in Florida, and the Aztec legends that started this club 30 years ago did a good job of solidifying the brand on and off the pitch. They know the name, and now we're excited to be part of the growing movement with the UPSL's Florida Conference."

St. Petersburg FC Aztecs has won two Florida state amateur titles and currently operates five men's amateur teams, with their Open Premier team featuring in the UPSL, two more Open teams competing in state and regional leagues, and both an Over-40 and an Over-50 team supported by 30 years of players and coaches.

Tim Kolb is the club's Chief Financial Officer. Shane Burroughs serves as the team's Operations Director.

"We're doing this to grow not only the club but to grow the fundamentals and the foundation of the club," Hampsey said. "Because what the club did for us as young professionals and young adults was so impactful that we want to continue to grow that reach and provide a safe opportunity to play at a highly-competitive level."

The team soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
