Feb. 1, 2018 - PRLog -- The Knowledge Group/The Knowledge Congress Live Webcast Series, the leading producer of regulatory focused webcasts, announced today that it has scheduled a live webcast entitled:Trends, Developments in the Energy Sector: What to Expect in 2018 and Beyond. This two-hours event is scheduled on February 22, 2018 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm (ET).

Event Synopsis:

Before the start of his administration, President Trump had already expressed his intent to abolish environmental regulations which were enforced during Obama's tenure. In March 2017, he directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), through an executive order, to "suspend, rescind, or revise" some of the Obama-era regulations, including the Clean Power Plan and other greenhouse gas regulations for the power sector. As a result, significant changes were seen in the field of energy in the first year of the Trump administration.

For example, in December 2017, EPA issued a final rule for the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) for 2018 and the biomass-based diesel volume requirement for 2019. These mandates are equally important and much anticipated, especially when it comes to the production and consumption of biofuels.

In addition, the Trump administration has made several announcements regarding infrastructure, including initiatives to streamline permitting and provide incentives for energy development.  The offshore wind industry has finally made its way into U.S. waters, and is poised to begin significant development on the East Coast.  The Trump administration's position on offshore wind is evolving, especially in the wake of announcements on the development of Outer Continental Shelf, and has significant potential to affect the success of offshore wind.

Recent threats and risks have led to executive action and increased congressional interest in cybersecurity in the energy sector.

Furthermore, a number of important energy-related cases have reached the US Supreme Court or the federal courts of appeals.  Many of these cases concern the scope of authority of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to regulate in this area, especially with regard to market manipulation.  As the contours of federal jurisdiction continue to be defined, litigation will be a key strategic asset for entities with related interests.

Join a panel of key thought leaders and professionals assembled by The Knowledge Group as they provide the audience with an in-depth analysis of the current regulatory trends and legal developments in the energy sector. Speakers will also give useful insights on what to expect in 2018 and beyond.

Some of the major topics that will be covered in this course are:

·         The status of "coal-fired" electricity in 2018 and beyond

·         The Clean Power Plant Update

·         The future of renewables in traditional coal states
