Non-profit delivers Apple iPads to Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center for children in treatment

The Walking Miracles Family Foundation, a 501c3 organization, is helping West Virginia families through the difficulties of dealing with pediatric cancer by donating Apple iPads to aid in education, connection and fun. The group delivered more than a dozen tablets to be given as a gift to patients at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center (ECCC) Pediatric Oncology Department at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington.

"Children are frightened and worried and so are their family members," said Brett Wilson, founder of Walking Miracles Family Foundation and a two-time childhood cancer survivor. "These iPads are loaded with apps that will provide education about the procedures the children will go through as well as several games and activities to serve as a distraction while they receive treatment."

Wilson said the iPads will also allow interaction between the pediatric patient, their nurse and physician at the ECCC and a nurse navigator at the Walking Miracles Family Foundation.

"We want the patients to be able to ask questions and connect with their clinical team and other families," said Wilson. "We hope these will ease stress and be a tool for documenting the child's journey through treatment."
