Is Your Child's School Letting You Down?
Now is the Time to Consider a Change – Shands School Enrollment is Open!
By: Shands School
While traditional classrooms might work well for some children, others require a more hands-on approach to thrive. "That's why we take a different approach to learning. We teach – and reach – our students by determining their individual learning style and then allowing each to learn by doing. We incorporate hands-on activities to connect classroom experiences to students' everyday lives," explains Shands' Director, Liz Morris.
· We promote independent thinking and problem solving by introducing a real world problem and then allowing our students to brainstorm together to create a solution.
· We bring in professionals who are experts in their fields to lead innovative classes that inspire and motivate. Instructors include Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author Glenn Proctor for writing, Dr. Wrenn Goodrum, Artistic Director/Founder of Activate Community Through Theater, for drama, and Suzanne Halaburda, UNCC Professor, for Language Arts.
· And we have FUN while doing so! Our hands-on educational experiences have included visits to museums, organic farms and caverns and brought Discovery Science to the classroom. That's more opportunities for outside learning than most schools provide in a year.
"We encourage students to question and seek out the answers. Most of all, we want our students to be happy, feel safe to express themselves, and love learning," Morris says.
Enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is currently open. We also have a limited opportunity for some students to make a mid-year change if their current school circumstances dictate that it would be in their best interest. Visit http://www.shandsschool.org/
What Parents are saying:
"Liz was always patient and persevering with Meghan. She saw beyond Meghan's 'symptoms' and recognized a bright little girl in need of enhancing some neurological connections."
"In the 4 months Ashley has been at Shands, she has blossomed both academically and emotionally!
"We had no idea how difficult it was emotionally for our son to go to public school every day. He was always tired, not focused and generally unhappy. We knew he needed a change. Shands was the change we had been waiting for. One month in school and he was like a new person. Happy, engaging, and chatty!" – Shands parent
"Before Shands, we were taking Grayson to a few different therapies every week. Not only was that difficult on our finances and time, but also on Grayson. After a full day of school, I had to drag him to do more work, three days a week. Shands is able to meet both his educational and therapeutic needs." – Shands parent
