Ensemble Aubade February Concerts in North Carolina and Tennessee: Music by Mozart, Debussy, Others

Boston's acclaimed Ensemble Aubade (Peter H. Bloom, flute; Francis Grimes, viola; Mary Jane Rupert, piano and harp) will perform music by Rameau, Mozart, Debussy, Ravel, von Weber and others in multiple venues in North Carolina and Tennessee.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - Jan. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- Ensemble Aubade (Peter H. Bloom, flute; Francis Grimes, viola; and Mary Jane Rupert, piano) is based in Boston and performs across the United States, winning praise for stellar musicianship and vibrant performances.  The group has been hailed for "intensity, imagination, skill, and finesse…shimmering grace" (St. Lawrence University).  The ensemble makes its debut in four concert series during its February Southeastern tour.

The first concert, hosted by Meredith University,will be held Friday, February 9, 2017 at 7:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3313 Wade Avenue, Raleigh NC 27606.  Free and open to the public      Information:  919-760-8536.  Ensemble Aubade (Peter H. Bloom, flute; Francis Grimes, viola; and Mary Jane Rupert, harp) will perform Claude Debussy's transcendent Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, one of the masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire.  Other selections will include the lush and thrilling Sonatine en Trio by Maurice Ravel, the witty Suite Brêve by Ladislas de Rohozinski, and the vivid, affecting Elegiac Trio by Arnold Bax.

Three other concerts feature European and American masterpieces for flute, viola and piano.

On Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 2:30 pm, the Brasstown Concert Association will present Ensemble Aubade (Peter H. Bloom, flute; Francis Grimes, viola; Mary Jane Rupert, piano) performing music by Rameau, Mozart, von Weber, and Robert Russell Bennett, at the John C. Campbell Folk School, One Folk School Road, Brasstown, NC 28902. Tickets at the door are $18 and $10 students and children.

Peter H. Bloom, flute, whose playing has been called "a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength" (The Boston Globe), performs in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the Far East; is featured on more than 40 recordings (Sony Classical, Dorian, Leo Records, other labels); is a faculty member of the Snow Pond Composers Workshop; and is a winner of the American Musicological Society's Noah Greenberg Award.  He has concertized with chamber ensembles in London, Bangkok, Canberra, Wellington, Ottawa, and other world capitals, and in hundreds of cities across 40 states and four continents.  His career spans chamber music from the Renaissance to the 21st century, and he is a noted jazz artist, veteran of the internationally acclaimed Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (45th season).  http://www.americasmusicworks.com/peter-h-bloom.html

Mary Jane Rupert, piano and harp, praised by The New York Times as exhibiting "indeed real sensitivity," has performed throughout the world from Carnegie Recital Hall to the Beijing Concert Hall. She has appeared as concert pianist and harpist with chamber ensembles, choral groups and orchestras across the United States.  She serves on the faculties of Boston College and Tufts University and taught previously at Western Michigan University, MIT, and Wellesley College, where she taught harp for 20 years.

Francis Grimes, viola, has performed with the Boston Pops, Boston Opera, Boston Ballet, Masterworks Chorale and other distinguished ensembles, and regularly serves in the orchestras of the Colonial and Schubert Theatres. He toured nationally with the Star Wars Orchestra and has performed with choral groups in England, Italy and the Czech Republic.

Peter H. Bloom and Mary Jane Rupert, performing as the Duo "2", have toured New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and across the United States.  They've been called "the very best players playing at the height of their powers" (University of Canberra College of Music, Australia).
