United Premier Soccer League Announces Colorado Conference Expansion with Longmont Diablos FC
Founded in 2010, Longmont (Colo.)-Based Pro Development Team Joins UPSL
Based in Northern Colorado, Longmont Diablos FC will begin UPSL play in the Championship Division of the Colorado Conference.
United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "The Championship Division in the Colorado Conference is a testament to the growth of the UPSL. Teams want a chance to compete for something greater, and we're pleased to announce Longmont Diablos FC as a new member for the Spring 2018 Season. Longmont Diablos FC is owned by a pair of ambitious business-minded brothers who want to do the right thing for their community. We wish Co-Owners ALfonso and Martin Avina all the luck as they prepare Longmont Diablos FC for the team's first UPSL kick this Spring."
Owned by ALfonso Avina and Martin Avina, Longmont Diablos FC has competed in numerous amateur men's leagues in Northern Colorado since 2010, and was a quarterfinalist at Copa Alianza Colorado in 2016.
ALfonso Avina, 29, is a native of Northern Colorado and a local business owner and entrepreneur. A former player for the Odgen, Utah, Outlaws (PDL) for two seasons, Avina will serve as Club Director.
Longmont Diablos FC Director ALfonso Avina said, "We've always been a competitive team playing amateur soccer up here in Northern Colorado, and now were ready to take off with this, grow this and turn it into one of the most important clubs in Colorado. We want to grow into our community and give opportunities to young players to show that the level of talent, especially in the Latino communities, is very high."
Martin Avina, 27, also played with the Ogden Outlaws (PDL) and has participated with competitive men's amateur teams in Boulder (Colo.) and Fort Collins (Colo.) since the age of 15. A small business owner and franchisee, Avila will serve as Club President.
"We're more into the business but we've also played competitive soccer since we were little, and back then soccer wasn't nearly as big as it is now," ALfonso Avina said. "When we were small it was nothing major but now it's really taking off.
The club is finalizing its venue options in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards. The team soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
