DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Jan. 16, 2018 - PRLog -- In the face of the opioid crisis, Stewart-Marchman-Act (SMA) Behavioral Healthcare is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. James L. Fenley, M.D., as SMA's Director of Addiction Services.

Dr. Fenley will provide leadership to SMA's addiction programming, with a focus on the development of several new opioid addiction treatment initiatives.

Announcing the appointment, Rhonda Harvey, SMA's Chief Operating Officer noted, "We are committed to the use of evidence-based practices to combat the tragic impact of the opioid epidemic. Dr. Fenley's approach to addiction medicine is consistent with both our philosophy and our commitment to our community."

Dr. Fenley, author of "Finding a Purpose in the Pain," joins SMA with over 33 years of experience in Addiction Medicine. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee Medical School, Dr. Fenley is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine, and has served more than ten years as the Chairman of the Southeastern Conference on Addictive Diseases and the Cape Cod Symposium on Addictive Disorders, as well as other national addiction conference planning committees.

Dr. Fenley's approach to the treatment of addiction combines compassion with science, as he promotes concurrently addressing the emotional pain that underlies physical addiction, in addition to the use of medication to assist the treatment process.

The start of Dr. Fenley's journey to the practice of addiction medicine was a personal one, sparked by his original intention of supporting a family member on their path to recovery. "Over the span of my career I have treated patients almost daily. Treating addiction recovery is my passion," shared Dr. Fenley.

Harvey added, "We are fortunate to add Dr. Fenley's expertise to our addiction services division. He joins a team of medical professionals that are equally passionate about our clients and our community. The timing could not be better."
