Follow on Google News | Distrokid Is Changing The Digital Distribution GameLook out Tunecore and CDBaby, the new kid on the block is rapidly gaining new artists; some from the aforementioned two distributors. Distrokid is here stay, and they mean business.
There are many other digital distributors other than the ones that we just mentioned, but they are lesser well known, and this article would be way too long if we included them. As you should be able to tell by now, the digital distribution landscape is not only crowded, it is very competitive. For any digital distribution company to find success they would have to really stand out. Distrokid has become (and is becoming) one the most sought after digital distributor; Distrokid was launched in 2013, and is owned by Philip Kaplan. Despite their growing success, a recent gap in royalty payouts (Spotify's October royalties) has many of Distrokid's artists voicing their anger online. From our investigation Distrokid did not provide any clarity as to why they were the only digital distributor that did not receive royalties from Spotify in December, for Spotify's October activity; and Spotify does not randomly pick distributors (with hundreds of artists) to not pay. Distrokid is currently the most affordable and accessible digital distribution company on the market, with a lot of very happy artists on their roster. The only competition they might have when it comes to price point is Beryl Media; the new kid on the block that boasts 100% free distribution. Dittomusic is also another distribution company that might give Distrokid a run for their money, because they offer fairly similar price points for their services; accept Dittomusic has much more features and options for musicians. http://www.digitalmusictimes.com End
