11th Annual Digital Photography Contest

(West Palm Beach, FL – January 9, 2018) Rochelle Wolberg, Curator-Director at Mounts Botanical Garden, Palm Beach County's oldest and largest public garden, today announced the launch of Mounts' 11th Annual Digital Photography Contest.

This year, in conjunction with the Garden's current exhibit WASHED ASHORE: Art to Save the Sea, Mounts has added a new Environmental category to capture on camera how disposable plastics and other trash befoul Palm Beach County's natural landscapes and waterways.

The Contest is open to Amateur Photographers of any age. Mounts is seeking photographs in six different categories:

+ Plant Life

+ Animal Life

+ People in the Garden*

+ Scenic/Landscapes

+ Nature Close-ups

+ Environmental – Trash in Palm Beach County

All photographs must be taken within the boundaries of Mounts Botanical Garden, except for the Environmental category. The entry fee is $10 per digital photograph, with a maximum of three pix in any combination of categories from each amateur photographer. For People in the Garden, the photographer must obtain a signed release from all identifiable children in the pix.

Amateur photographers can submit photos between January 17 and February 20. The Guest Judge will be the respected nature photographer Alan Chin Lee, and the winners will be announced by March 1, 2018.

One image will be awarded Best in Show, and the photographer will win a Garden Family & Friends membership and a $100 Mounts gift certificate. The second-place winner will receive a $50 Mounts gift certificate, and third place will get  a $25 certificate. The winning photographer for the Environmental category will receive a cash prize.

For this contest, a professional is defined as anyone who derives income from photography, or anyone who has marketed work in the past, who is presently marketing work, or who has copyrighted images with the intent of marketing them.

Note: All submitted images become the property of Mounts Botanical Garden and will not be returned. The Garden reserves the right to retain the photos for display or promotion.

While the WASHED ASHORE: Art to Save the Sea exhibit is on display through early June, admission to Mounts Botanical Garden is FREE for members and children 4 and under; $15 for nonmembers; $5 for children (5-12); and group tours are $18 per person (5 and older).
