Recent study blames smartphones for spreading lice
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Jan. 9, 2018 - PRLog -- A 2017 study out of Oxford University Hospital found that teens and tweens with their own cell phone or tablet were twice as likely to get head lice. This statistic shocked thousands of people, but not Huntington Beach Lice Expert Pam Skinner. "We have had well over 20,000 people in my lice removal salon, since 2012. Teens used to be about 20% of our customers. Now, they are well over 50% of our customers". Kids huddle around small screens – cell phones and tablets, to watch videos and share social media. Lice are spread primarily head-to-head, or hair-to-hair. Lice don't jump, hop, or fly. Skinner points out "it's not just taking a quick selfie, it's two to four teens deciding together, of the 20 selfies they took, which one to post on Instagram. I watched my own daughter do this with her three best friends!"

Here are 3 easy tips to keep your teen lice free:

1. Braid or Bun Everyone's Hair. Lice need a piece of loose hair to climb on to a head.

2. Don't Share Hair Brushes! If someone has an active infestation, it is easy to spread if someone shares their hair   brushes. (Hint: color code brushes like a toothbrush).

3. Mist Hair With A Scented Hair Product. Hair spray, gel, mousse, even old school Aqua Net Scented Hair Spray. Repellent scents include: Coconut, lavender, tea tree, rosemary, peppermint, and others. (Use sparingly, no need to repel people!)
