Follow on Google News | Local Preschool Relocates after 64 YearsFor over 6 decades, the preschool has operated out of the Tigard United Methodist Church building on Locust across the street from Metzger Elementary School. In recent years, the church has started a community outreach program, under the direction of the Bethlehem House of Bread, that includes a food pantry, a community garden, a free store, cooking classes and an afterschool enrichment program. The program has grown exponentially and requires more space to continue the much needed community support it provides. Over the past 64 years, generations of families have attended Metzger Community Preschool. The school's success can be attributed to the efforts of its members/families to fulfill its mission of providing a developmentally appropriate learning experience through play, creativity and discovery. During the search for a new pace, careful consideration was taken to ensure that the new classroom will support imaginative play, one of the school's core values. The teacher and curriculum will remain the same, along with the cooperative model that emphasizes family involvement, including parent participation in the classroom. "I chose this school not only because my husband went there as a preschooler, but because of the longstanding reputation for education and community involvement," As the school looks forward to its relocation, there will be several opportunities for alumni families and the community to contribute services and financial assistance. Community donations are always welcome and can be given directly through the website at: http://www.metzgerpreschool.com/ End
