Guske has a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology, and is an accomplished Biochemical Engineer with 28 years of industrial biotechnology experience in food, nutraceutical, specialty, and commodity chemical segments. He has worked at CP Kelco, NutraSweet, and, most recently, Tate & Lyle where he was Director, BioVentures and Support Services, overseeing the Analytical, Citric Strain Development, Small-Scale Fermentation Lab, and Fermentation Pilot Plant functions. Guske has provided service to the commodity, specialty, and high-value chemicals, ag-bio, algae, animal-free products, rare sugars, and private equity sectors, including facility assessment, CMO support/identification, process development, optimization and troubleshooting, cost modeling, aseptic design/contamination troubleshooting, high-level facilities design, and due diligence assessment. His experience includes such products and processes as 1,3-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, astaxanthin, farnesene, citric acid, xanthan gum, polyhydroxyalkanoates and organisms such as prokaryotes, yeast, fungi, microalgae. He will work with the group in the areas of fermentation, aseptic design, and technical due diligence. Davies has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester and 30 years' experience in biomanufacturing, developing and optimizing fermentation and downstream processes to generate biomass, proteins, fuels, chemicals and for biotranformations. He has significant experience in microbial strain development and in process technology transfer and scale up. Most recently, as CTO, he led the technical team at Green Biologics Ltd which, coordinating with the engineering team, developed the microbes and fermentation process that facilitated the start-up of the first commercial acetone-butanol plant in the USA since 1938.
