International Computer Vision and Smart Cameras Community met in Stanford University

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Dec. 30, 2017 - PRLog -- Hosted by mediaX at Stanford University, the International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras (ICDSC) took place September 5th to 7^th 2017 at Stanford University where pioneering work on distributed smart cameras started. This year's edition presented multidisciplinary research that led to new opportunities, the exchange of ideas and collaboration that can also lead to novel technologies and applications.

The first ICDCS conference started in 2007 and every year since, has been held in Europe, Asia or the US. This 11^th edition had over 45 attendees from a variety of fields including academic, industrial and graduate students.

The content of this year's conference included keynote talks from professors Juan Carlos Niebles and Silvio Savarese from the SAIL-Toyota Center for AI Research at Stanford. Additional speakers included Chris Rowen from Cognite Ventures and Jon Peddie from Jon Peddie Research. A panel also discussed how to bridge academic research into the startup world where other technical and business opportunities are yet to be explored.

More than 30 papers were submitted and accepted from universities, institutes and companies. Authors came from Europe, Asia, America and Australia. Authors presented their papers during the conference sessions which focused on Embedded and Mobile Vision Applications, Smart Cameras, Distributed Vision, Emerging Applications, Visual Sensor Networks, Camera-based Smart Environments, Target Tracking and Person Re-Identification and Embedded Vision System. Additionally, PhD students presented their work in a PhD forum.

The best paper was awarded to Lukas Cavigelli, Philippe Degen, Luca Benini, for "CBinfer: Change-Based Inference for Convolutional Neural Networks on Video Data" and the best paper of the PhD Forum was given to Lobna Ben Khalifa, François Berry for "LobNet: A low specification camera network platform using Ant-Cam".

The proceedings were published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in collaboration with SIGBED, the Special Interest Group on Embedded Systems.

The ICDSC 2017 was hosted by mediaX at Stanford University on behalf of Prefixa and Nvidia, and in cooperation with ACM/SIGBED and INAOE (National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics in Mexico).
