NAPLES, Fla. - Dec. 27, 2017 - PRLog -- Guadalupe Center, a nonprofit organization focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through the education of children, is hosting a Discover Mentoring event at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, inviting the community to explore mentorship opportunities that support college-bound high school students in Immokalee who are enrolled in Guadalupe Center's Tutor Corps Program. During the event, guests will meet and hear from mentors and staff of the Tutor Corps Program to learn more about becoming a mentor. Discover Mentoring will be held at the Terrace at Caxambas in Fiddler's Creek, located at 8152 Fiddler's Creek Parkway in Naples.

More than 20-30 promising new students enter the Tutor Corps Program each year, where they will have the opportunity to work as a tutor to kindergarten- through second-grade students each day after school, earn up to $4,000 in college scholarship money, and be paired with an adult mentor. Serving as a mentor within the program requires little travel to Immokalee or financial obligation. Instead, mentors can serve as a listener and guiding hand to first-generation high school graduates who are preparing to head off to college.

"Mentors have the opportunity to make a huge impact in the lives of Immokalee students, serving as a lifelong supporter, confidant and friend as these students strive for greatness," said Dawn Montecalvo, president of Guadalupe Center. "Many students within this program are the first of their families to attend college, and they benefit greatly by being paired with an adult who has experienced college first-hand and can provide valuable insight as they prepare for the next step along their educational journeys. We encourage those interested in becoming a mentor to join us on Jan. 24 to learn more about how they can support the students of Immokalee through this special program."

Admission to the Discover Mentoring event is $25 and includes a buffet-style meal and cocktails offered at happy hour pricing. Those interested in exploring mentorship opportunities at the Discover Mentoring event are asked to RSVP by Jan. 17 by calling 908-581-4754 or emailing lfox08@comcast.net.
