From Fires in California to the Streets of Dallas We Need to Show Appreciation for 1st Responders

While we go to work or tuck our kids into bed, there are people out there with their lives on the line, helping to ensure we are able to do it all over the following day. This is a way to show appreciation and raise funds for the Red Cross as well.

MONTECITO, Calif. - Dec. 21, 2017 - PRLog -- All too often we are hearing nothing but negative reports when we hear of the police in the news and at the watercooler. We don't hear of the 99.9% who are doing their job with the best of intentions while being under appreciated. The paramedics and firefighters typically do not even make the conversations. Like running water, we have just come to depend on it being there without any thought or appreciation.

This is a time in history when we need to reflect on the importance of these people who selflessly work night and day to protect and save us from danger and death. We are reminded of these individuals when tragedy happens such as lives lost in fighting fires or terrorism attacks but not often in between in a positive way.

If we take a moment to reflect on the rare times such as the L.A. Riots when police, firefighters were forced to sit back and watch while people died and buildings burned. Chaos and tragedy ensued and blame was quickly placed on the LAPD and other first responders when in fact there was blame to be spread around to all parties. When protesters broke security lines in Seattle and Vancouver at international summits, they blamed law enforcement for use of pepper spray and the protesters took no responsibility. Causing a security risk for the world leader and delegates. We need to ALL take responsibility for our actions while showing appreciation for those who actually believe in the good our communities are capable of.

We need to hold the very small percentage of bad apples accountable when they act in ways that are not in the interest of law, order and safety. If we do not appreciate the good these people do, we will see a decline in the recruitment of new first responders and our societies will find more chaos and turbulence. We need to encourage the good first responders and show how much we appreciate them everyday.
