Durham Sustain Ability Works with Local Businesses to Track and Reduce Carbon Emissions

By: Durham Sustain Ability
WHITBY, Ontario - Dec. 19, 2017 - PRLog -- In May of 2017, Durham Sustain Ability (DSA) launched their Carbon Accounting tool to members of the DPPG program. The tool has been designed to help members to better measure, track, manage and reduce their environmental impact.

In the seven months following the launch, DSA has been working with DPPG members who eagerly volunteered to participate as part of the pilot project of the tool. In this time DSA has completed 7 baseline inventories using facility data from each participating member. As part of DSA's Carbon Reduction Framework and program requirements, participants are obligated to report on both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and must set a reduction target within 3 years of joining the DPPG program. In 2016, participating members reported a total of ‚Äč13334.24 tonnes C02e emissions. DSA will work with these members in 2018 on reduction target setting.

DSA is one of 7 social enterprises across Ontario convening networks of over 200 businesses setting sustainability targets with the support of Sustainability CoLab (http://sustainabilitycolab.org/). Together we're demonstrating that a more sustainable economy is possible.

About DPPG: Through new forms of business to business collaboration, Durham Partners in Project Green (http://www.sustain-ability.ca/business-program) delivers programming that helps businesses reduce energy and resource costs, uncover new business opportunities, and address everyday operational challenges sustainably and cost effectively.
