Based in DeKalb County (Ill.), DeKalb County United begins UPSL play in the Midwest Conference and will play its games at Northern Illinois University's 1,500-seat Soccer and Track & Field Complex () in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.
United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "The UPSL Midwest Conference is expanding rapidly as new clubs nationwide continue to see the vision of the UPSL's Pro/Rel Model, and we're pleased to welcome DeKalb County United to the mix ahead of the Spring 2018 Season. The ownership group is committed to the community, and has a fine facility at which to grow their aspirations. We wish President John Hall and DeKalb County United as it prepares to kick off in 2018."
DeKalb County native John Hall, 36, is President of the Board of Directors of DeKalb County United. A former player and coach at both DeKalb (Ill.) High School and Malta (Ill.) Kishwaukee College, Hall leads a five-person board that includes Vice President Colby Newquist, Treasurer Brian VanBuren, Secretary Jenny Hall, and Director Steve Duran.
DeKalb County United President John Hall said, "We are 100 percent community funded. The people of DeKalb County are the owners. I want our youth to have a team that they can look up to and strive to be a part of. We want to give the kids an opportunity we never had while getting the community behind something that's completely homegrown and local, and build passion for something people didn't even know they wanted."
Hall touts the advantage of the club's home field at NIU, where the turf at the Soccer and Track & Field Complex is FIFA 2-Star Certified, meaning the playing surface meets the highest current worldwide standards.
"We want to build on the local rivalries against clubs like Aurora Borealis SC and Elgin Pumas SC," Hall said. "It's about building love for the game locally, and giving young kids maybe a hero to look up to."
The team soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
