NUSSD, Tata Institute of Social Sciences Organises Steps to Success – a Career Guidance Program

MUMBAI, India - Dec. 13, 2017 - PRLog -- The National University Students' Skill Development Programme, the flagship Skill Development Programme of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences organized 'Steps To Success', a Career Guidance Program for all Third Year undergraduate students of its participating colleges in Mumbai. The objective of the program was to help students build the path to achieve their goals and ambitions, along with education and skill development. The program was organised on December 7, 2017 at the Tata Institue Of Social Sciences, Deonar. More than 120 students from the four colleges - N. G. Acharya & D. K. Marathe College, Chembur, SM Shetty College, Powai, Sree Narayana Guru College of Commerce, Chembur and Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College, Ghatkopar attended the Program.

'Steps to Success'began with an orientation of the employment scenario and the efforts students must take to achieve their career goals by Richard Samuel, Senior Programme Officer, NUSSD. A goal setting and aspiration study exercise was conducted thereafter to gauge the aspiration of a student, so that they can be guided onward towards developing suitable skills and supported in finding employment in their chosen area. Rajesh Jamwal, Placement Officer, NUSSD explained the importance of understanding one's own aspiration, which was a new activity for students.

The Director, NUSSD, Tanmay Nayak addressed students on the way forward after Graduation, setting a vision and taking necessary steps to achieving that vision. "NUSSD believes in inclusion. Helping the last child in the last bench develop skills and find suitable jobs is what we stand for. Students must inculcate greater awareness of career options and then make necessary efforts to develop a career of their choice", said Mr. Nayak

The NUSSD Programme is being implemented in 5 states in India in more than 150 colleges and university as on date. The Programme sponsored by J.P.Morgan in Maharashtra, supports NUSSD – TISS and aims to train more than 3000 students by June 2018and place interested students in meaningful jobs. J.P. Morgan also supports the programme in many ways through their employee and voluntary engagement. More colleges are being added to the fray each day. NUSSD runs skill development programmes in parallel with the undergraduation courses for students within their colleges so that students can obtain a certification from TISS along with their graduate degree. NUSSD also supports students in career counseling, placement and self-growth.
