Consider New Paths with a New Year Journaling Workshop

Enjoy Quiet Contemplation and Creativity on School Sisters of St. Francis Campus

MILWAUKEE - Dec. 11, 2017 - PRLog -- Many people have found journaling to be a helpful way to chronicle life events and record observations and ideas. A journal is like a trusted friend that reinvites the author again and again to reflect, express strong feelings, deliberate on life's questions, and even sketch pictures.

Explore this creative process for yourself on Saturday, January 20, from 9 a.m. to 11. 15 a.m., when the School Sisters of St. Francis sponsor a workshop titled "The New Year in Image and Journaling" at St. Joseph Center (1501 S. Layton Blvd. or 27th St. and Greenfield Ave.) in Milwaukee.

The workshop will be led by Faye Schwelitz, PhD, PsyD, who holds certification in spiritual direction. The session is intended to introduce the benefits of journaling to newcomers, and give experienced journalers a greater affinity for this healing and self-improving activity.

"The workshop will begin with a reflection on the unknown potentials of the new year," said Dr. Schwelitz. "We will follow this by intuitively choosing images from a collection provided and forming a collage on a card. Then, we will journal on what the collage may be saying to us about the new year."

Dr. Schwelitz's knowledge in the area of journaling as therapy comes directly from the source. She studied under the famous psychotherapist Ira Progoff, who is credited with the Intensive Journal method of personal development. Dr. Schwelitz herself has facilitated journal workshops in the United States and Australia, and is certified in SoulCollage, which helps participants to learn more about themselves through collage images.

"The combination of journaling and SoulCollage provides a rich way to work in one's life and find direction," said Dr. Schwelitz. Participants will surely enjoy giving themselves the gift of time in mid-winter to contemplate quietly and joyously anticipate the newness of all that life has to offer in 2018.

Advance registration is required for this workshop. The fee is $15. Please write checks to:  School Sisters of St. Francis Outreach Events, c/o Donna O'Loughlin; 1501 S. Layton Blvd., Milwaukee, WI 53215. Convenient free parking is available in the St. Joseph Center lot at 29th St. and Orchard St. Contact:  doloughlin@sssf.org or 414-385-5272.
