Follow on Google News | London's most historical boxing club offering free sessions boxing sessionsTeaching children to be champions: The Ring Boxing club in Southwark, south east London, has developed Punch Up, the UK's only children's boxing charity – to give urban kids a free taste of the sport in a safe and inspiring environment.
By: Punch Up Charity In challenging urban environments, some kids may feel that joining a gang offers respect, but boxing earns it with skill, discipline and raising the bar of self-expectation. There's no goal-keeper to blame or striker to hide behind, It's all down to you! Mark Burford, Director of the Punch-Up Charity, explains the format, 'In the theatrical setting of the historical Ring Boxing Club, kids will learn about the history of the club and the sport, before being given a tour of the gym and its equipment. The group will then get to engage physically with some basic work on the punch bags and boxing-pads in a safe, supervised environment without physical contact between the children – all provided by our fully qualified and hugely experienced training staff'. George Campbell, Leader 1st Crystal Palace Scouts, said "An absolutely superb session which the Scouts loved. Huge thanks to Punch-Up Charity for hosting. A great initiative". Each introduction will take approximately 2 hours and will be structured and supervised throughout. With a maximum size of 24 children per group in any single session, broken down into smaller groups of four or five students when demonstrating the equipment and basics principles of the sport, it's also also enormous fun and an unparalleled form of physical exercise.
