United Premier Soccer League Announces Southwest Conference Expansion with Southwest Football Club
El Paso (Tex.)-Based Pro Development Team Joins UPSL for 2018 Season
Based in El Paso (Tex.), Southwest FC will begin UPSL play in the Pro Premier Division.
United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "'Connecting American Soccer' is what we're all about at the United Premier Soccer League, and we're pleased to welcome Southwest FC out of El Paso, Texas as a new member of the UPSL starting in Spring 2018. Southwest FC wants to continue to grow and become part of the UPSL National Plan with a chance to compete against some of the best teams in the country. We wish Owner Endy Gonzalez and Southwest FC the best of success as they prepare to kick off in Spring 2018."
Operated by Endy Gonzalez, a former collegiate player, Southwest FC aims to bring together the best from the vibrant El Paso soccer community.
Southwest FC General Manager and Head Coach Endy Gonzalez said, "Our main goal is to appeal to the people and show them that if you want something done you have to go out there and get it. We know soccer is big here and there are people playing here in all the catagories, and we're going to tap into that."
Gonzalez, 20, played academy soccer in Mexico before immigrating to the United States. A native of Mexico, Gonzalez is studying toward a Bachelor's degree in Marketing.
"I've been looking at the UPSL for about a year and after a while of contemplating whether or not we can sustain this project I said, 'We just have to do it,'" Gonzalez said. "We're going to fight for 90 minutes for that crest on the shirt, and for the people of El Paso."
Southwest FC is currently exploring its venue options in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards. The team soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
