Follow on Google News | It's Christmas! Time To Trim Up In StyleBy: Miller Homes Decorating our homes for the festive season is a great pleasure for young and old alike and, whether you co-ordinate everything perfectly with your décor or go for a more traditional, eclectic look there is much you can achieve that is both stylish and on trend. The team from leading housebuilder Miller Homes in Yorkshire share their top tips on what decorations and trends they will be embracing this year. "We all love the festive season and thought that sharing some of our trimming up tips with our housebuyers and home owners across the county may just serve as some inspiration," · Less is more – Trees, trimming, tinsel…. It can all get a bit much. Choose a focal point in each room so in your living room perhaps trim your mantelpiece, dress your table in the dining room and go to town on a fantastic tree in your hallway. · Twinkle, twinkle – Christmas lights, fake candles all add warmth and sparkle to any Christmas scheme so perhaps put lights outside on a tree or add fake tea lights to a fire place garland. Make sure they are the same colour though - a mis-match of cold white and warm white light can spoil the effect. · The tree – The tree is a favourite Christmas decoration with people in two definite camps – those that decorate to match their décor and those whose tree tells a story with years of decorations that have been collected from all eras of their lives. Just be consistent - go with the theme and try not to marry the two as it dilutes the impact. Whichever you choose however, ensure the tree is an appropriate size for your living room. Too big, and you'll be wanting to take it down before Santa has even been! · The great outdoors – Now we're not suggesting that you have to bring the entire outside of your home alive, but subtle lights in trees or perhaps bauble and light filled lanterns bring a subtle and stylish bit of Christmas cheer to visitors. "Other trends which are timeless are bringing nature inside with fir cones, twigs and berries adding an elegant finish to fire places, wreaths and festive table settings," said Michael. "Perhaps the most important thing though is to ensure your decorations are co-ordinated across your home and remember, that effective decorations do not have to expensive, indeed those that aren't and are created individually are the ones we treasure most."
