New Brighton Middle School Awarded Third Place for Cover Design in National Yearbook Competition

PRINCETON, N.J. - Nov. 30, 2017 - PRLog -- Entourage Yearbooks announced their 7th Annual National Yearbook Competition awards, recognizing New Brighton Middle School in Capitola, California with the distinctive Third Place for Cover Design.  The nationally sponsored contest conducted by Entourage Yearbooks judges school yearbooks in many facets including creativity, originality, and journalistic relevance.  Hundreds of schools enter across all fifty states at the Elementary, Middle School, and High School level.

"I'd like to offer my sincere congratulations to all of the schools that completed yearbooks and submitted entries into the yearbook contest this year," said Entourage's President Elias Jo. "Putting together a great yearbook takes a lot of time and dedication.  The award winners represent schools who clearly went above and beyond on their yearbook and deserve recognition for their hard work.  I'm personally blown away by the level of achievement this year."

This achievement recognizes New Brighton Middle School for putting together a notable yearbook at the Middle School level.  Their entry was submitted at the end of June 2017 and was officially awarded on November 1st, 2017.  The New Brighton Middle School yearbook was selected from hundreds of schools who had submitted entries from around the country.

Michele Tomlin, yearbook advisor at New Brighton Middle School, said "Our school has used Entourage for at least one year prior to my taking over as the advisor. I previously served as the yearbook advisor from 1988-92. The honor goes primarily to the student artists, Kevin Falkenworth and Bella Medina, as well as the art teacher, Roy Segura, who has guided the students of his Spring Advanced Art class in the creation of the cover artwork for about a decade. The Advanced Art class chooses four designs from the class submissions, which are then put to the teaching staff for an anonymous vote. Mr. Segura submits the two finalists as photographs to the current yearbook advisor who at that point places them into the cover layout.  Yearbook is a popular elective and the students work hard to create a publication worthy of the pride they have in their school. The New Brighton Middle School community looks forward to the publication and distribution of the yearbook at the end of each year. A significant portion of the end of the year program is dedicated to this distribution. "

Started in 2011, this is the 7th year that the annual Entourage National Yearbook Competition has been held in recognition of schools with yearbooks created by students and school volunteers. To participate, schools had to submit their yearbook content into categories for overall yearbook theme, page design, photography, and cover design.  This year, over 800 schools entered the competition.

Judging of the contest entries was based on a balanced rating across the dimensions of creativity, originality and journalistic relevance. Schools were judged at separate levels: Elementary, Middle School and High School. 1st through 3rd place winners in each category receive various prizes like cameras, yearbook cover upgrades, and Columbia Scholastic Press Association membership.
