Society of Military Widows elects Catherine McGraw as President
In 2018 the Society of Military Widows will publish an anthology titled Military Wives and Widows Tell Their Stories. "This book is intended to be a fund-raiser to assist our organization carry out its mission but also commemorates the 50th Anniversary of our Society", said Catherine. "With this collection of true-life stories from members of SMW and other survivors, we celebrate fifty years of widows assisting each other, supporting our active duty personnel in the United States Uniformed Services and bolstering legislative efforts to improve the benefits needed to sustain the surviving spouses and families."
The idea for the anthology originated with Janet Snyder, President of SMW (2016-2017) when she realized that the lives of the members of the Society had a common bond but were individual experiences. Janet said, "This collection of stories highlights personal happenings but at the same time exposes what it means to be part of a force that can be deployed anywhere at any time on short notice. The forgotten heroes are the military surviving spouses. These gentle warriors have always contributed on the home front, and know the value of working together in mutual support."
Rita Berman, a North Carolina writer, is editing and designing the book. "I am deeply moved by the stories I have received and believe they make a worthwhile contribution in helping the general public understand what it means when a man or woman joins up and dedicates their life to service of this country."
The book will be available on Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle versions.
