CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Nov. 15, 2017 - PRLog -- Childhood Cancer Awareness Month may have been in September, but Levine Children's Hospital, together with pediatric cancer patients, families, survivors and advocates, is still focused on spreading awareness. By sharing information about childhood cancer, nearly 200 children in the Charlotte region will be helped in getting the treatment and support they need. In 2017, Levine Children's Hospital offered more clinical trials, advanced research and cutting edge treatments than ever before, so that no child needs to travel far to get the care that they need.

We invite you to share the facts, videos, stories and photos included here so that together, we can work towards a cure and support all who are impacted by childhood cancer. Key Updates from 2017:

• The LCH bone marrow transplant team is treating cancer, sickle cell disease and immune deficiencies in patients who historically would not have a chance of a cure. There are several newly recruited physicians who are bringing world class expertise to the region and they are changing the course of treatment while improving outcomes for patients.
• LCH has pioneered their ability to fight tumors at home with the advancement of their outpatient chemotherapy treatment. Children no longer have to be admitted to the hospital if they have solid tumors. Normally, when treating a solid tumor, children are required to be in the hospital for upwards of five days.
• LCH is expanding its capabilities to offer a more personalized approach to medicine. Their cancer experts are customizing chemotherapy treatment plans for patients, and providing them access to participate in innovative studies and experimental drugs.
• LCH is ranked as a Best Children's Hospital by U.S. News & World Report in multiple specialties, including cancer.
• MIBG therapy will be arriving to the Charlotte region in 2018 thanks to a grant from the Isabella Santos Foundation. This is a very specialized therapy specifically for relapsed neuroblastoma. There are less than 20 centers in the country that offer this treatment.
