Latino Leaders Luncheon Series Honoring Actor Cheech Marin at The California Club on Thursday, November 16th
LOS ANGELES - Nov. 13, 2017 - PRLog -- The Latino Leaders Network (LLN), a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing leaders together, will host a book reading and reception with co-editor Mickey Ibarra and book contributors Antonio Villaraigosa and Gloria Molina at La Plaza (501 N Main St, Los Angeles) on Wednesday, November 15th to promote the recently published book, Latino Leaders Speak: Personal Stories of Struggle and Triumph. They will each share their personal stories and read excerpts from the book. The event is open to the public.

"Our Latino community has role models, inspiring heroes and outstanding leaders and their stories need to be told," said Mr. Ibarra. "Readers of this book will be inspired to dream big, get prepared and get ready to lead."

LLN hosts six annual events throughout the country honoring prominent Latino leaders. The book features 33 keynote addresses delivered at the Latino Leaders Luncheon Series by leaders from a wide variety of occupations, including government, sports, entertainment, education, journalism and more.

On Thursday, November 16th LLN will convene its 52nd Latino Leaders Luncheon Series event to honor comedian, actor and writer Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin with the Eagle Leadership Award from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The California Club (538 S Flower St, Los Angeles, CA 90071). LLN will also present the Chairman's Award to Senator Ricardo Lara of Los Angeles for his significant contributions to strengthen our community. Guest speakers at the "by invitation-only" luncheon includes Supervisor Hilda Solis, as well as LA City Council Members Gil Cedillo and Jose Huizar.

"Cheech" Marin was born in South Central Los Angeles and is widely acknowledged as a cultural icon. After Cheech met Tommy Chong, the comedian duo moved to Los Angeles to perform. The two released a series of highly successful comedy albums in the 1970's. Six of their albums went gold, four were nominated for Grammys, and Los Cochinos won the 1973 Grammy for Best Comedy Recording.

During his split with Chong, Cheech wrote, directed, and starred in the comedy Born In East L.A. He has also appeared in over 20 films and several television sitcoms, such as LOST and Jane the Virgin. Cheech has also become a favorite among kids through his popular Disney Pixar animation film roles (Oliver & Company, The Lion King, Cars, and more) and as an author of children's books such as Cheech the School Bus Driver.

Cheech is also known as a humanitarian for helping improve educational opportunities for Hispanic children. He is also recognized today as a preeminent Chicano art advocate. In the mid-1980s, he began developing what is now arguably the finest private collection of Chicano art. He believes Chicano art is American art and his goal is to bring the term 'Chicano' to the forefront of the art world.

"We are proud to honor Cheech Marin with the Eagle Leadership Award for his outstanding service to our community," said Mickey Ibarra, Founder and Chairman of the Latino Leaders Network. "His powerful personal story inspires us all to pay it forward, break down cultural stereotypes and demonstrates how art can serve as a tool for social change."

LLN's luncheon community partner is the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project. Event sponsors include the Anheuser-Busch Foundation, Community Loans of America, The Coca-Cola Company, Southwest Airlines, Edison International, HDR, Inc., SoCalGas, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Walmart and AARP.
