SAN DIEGO - Nov. 6, 2017 - PRLog -- The NMSDC's MBE national standardization of certification is designed to confirm a business is at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a minority or minorities. The MBE certification is awarded to eligible companies through an application process. The NMSDC and its regional affiliates are only one of a few nationally recognized minority business certification agencies. Part of the reason for this is that all companies who apply for NMSDC MBE certification must complete its rigorous certification process. This process is important in order to mitigate fraud in the MBE certification process, as explained by the NMSDC on their website, "Eligibility is established by conducting a series of screenings, interviews, and site visits. This distinguishes NMSDC from other organizations or entities who publish directories allowing for "self-certification" as their standard. Stringent standardization also identifies bona fide minority businesses…These procedures help measure overall performance and progress."

Being a certified MBE allows Imani Lee, Inc. to have access to a wide range of business partnering opportunities. This is because the federal government, private sector, and state agencies all want to work with minority-owned companies. Examples of this include government set-aside opportunities as many states and cities also have minority-owned business programs. Maryland, for example, has a legally mandated program that requires 25 percent of all government contracts to be filled by minority-owned businesses. The Department of Transportation requires that recipients of its funding award a percentage of contracts to minority-owned businesses. Similarly, many large companies have goals for buying from minority-owned suppliers. Some of these forward-thinking businesses include AT&T, Wyndham Worldwide, American Airlines, and General Motors.

There are many reasons companies and government agencies want to work with MBE certified businesses, one of them being America's ever-changing demographics. More and more consumers in the U.S. are minorities, and companies realize that if they ignore the buying habits, tastes, cultures and preferences of minorities, they will miss out on a lot of potential company revenue. Diversity in the workplace can also make companies stronger and more efficient, and both companies and governments want to work with strong businesses. Imani Lee, Inc. Vice President Bahar Martin explains the many advantages of working with companies with a diverse workforce, she states, "A diverse culture in the workforce can improve every area of the business and can result in a more globally savvy employee base, higher morale, a broader more holistic service range, increased creativity, increased productivity, new language skills, new processes, and new solutions to difficult problems."
