Behl Orthodontics Announces First Free Braces Winner

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Nov. 6, 2017 - PRLog -- Dr. Yugal Behl of Behl Orthodontics surprised his first 'Smile It Forward' Free Braces winner on October 27^th.

The first winner, Myshayla Tyson, was called to the principal's office on October 27th at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth with the surprise of a lifetime. Dr. Behl, his team, a news crew and Myshayla's family were waiting in the room with balloons and flowers.

"I definitely think we gave her quite a shock. She wasn't expecting this at all which makes it that much more fun," says Kristen Anderson, Practice Manager of Behl Orthodontics.

Dr. Behl launched his 'Smile It Forward' program in September as a community service initiative to provide free braces to deserving students in Hampton Roads. Each month, the orthodontic practice will be announcing a new recipient of free orthodontic treatment.

"It's such a great feeling to be able to give someone the gift of a smile, especially someone as deserving as Myshayla. Myshayla is a senior in high school and will be going off to college next year. I hope her new smile will give her the confidence she needs to pursue all of her life dreams," explains Dr. Yugal Behl.

Myshayla submitted an entry into the contest in September stating that braces would help boost her self-esteem and would be the best graduation present ever.  With a mom battling advanced stage breast cancer, Myshayla selflessly helps care of her and her sibling while also attending school and working an after-school job.  Myshayla is also involved with the nonprofit, Best Kept Secret-Stop the Violence Nonprofit Organization, which serves as an anti-violence and gang prevention organization. She participates in all of their Stop the Violence marches and campaigns and helps mentor other kids about gang violence prevention.

"She really deserves this. She helps me with the baby, she helps me around the house. Even when I'm weak, she's my strength," explains Myshayla's mother, Ne-Ne Valentine.

The orthodontic practice is still getting a flood of new entries every day. They are encouraging the community to spread the word so they can award the next deserving student in Hampton Roads with the gift of a smile.

"We are very, very, very thankful! This was truly a great blessing for our family. I am still in tears…tears of joy! Myshayla held her cry in until she got home, then she broke down! I am one proud mother today!" says Myshayla's mother.
