Georgia Volunteers at the Heart of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful's Success

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Nov. 6, 2017 - PRLog -- On Saturday, October 21^st, more than 130 volunteers gathered with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources to take part in Gwinnett Great Day of Service 2017. In a matter of hours, the group removed 4,280 lbs. of trash along the banks of the Yellow River and stenciled over 200 storm drains to minimize litter that can get into our waterways in the area surrounding the Lower Yellow Watershed in Snellville.  This event was one of several cleanup events the eco-focused nonprofit and its partners plan and implement each year, illustrating that the dedication of its volunteers is key to the success of its community-based endeavors.

"We have awesome volunteers," said Sumner Gann, Program Manager for Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. "It always blows me away to see all of the people who come out to our events in support of this community. In addition to cleanup events, our organization is focused on advocation, education and engagement of residents and local businesses on behalf of our environment. We coordinate a number of programs – like Adopt-a-Road and Adopt-a-Stream – in which people with a spirit of volunteerism can take part in our year-round efforts. We are also extremely grateful to our partners at Gwinnett County Departments of Water Resources and Parks & Recreation, as well as at Anderson-Livsey Elementary School for their part in making Gwinnett Great Days of Service 2017 a success."

To thank individuals, businesses and organizations that demonstrate a spirit of volunteerism and dedication to the Gwinnett community through eco-friendly endeavors, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful recently honored Rubicon, Yellow River Water Trail, City of Peachtree Corners and Lanier High School during its annual ECoS (Environmental Consciousness and Stewardship) Awards on October 11^th. GCB awarded its highest honor – the 2017 Connie Wiggins Environmental Legacy Award – to Rudy Bowen of Home South Communities and the Georgia DOT Transportation Board for his role in initiating the Georgia Inmate Program to cleanup state highways, in addition to the many unspoken acts of stewardship he performs on behalf of the Gwinnett County community.
