Three Time NFL Pro Bowler Shawne Merriman Announces 15th Annual "Lights On" Coat DriveMerriman's Coat Drive is Slated to be The Largest Effort In the History of The Annual Event With A Unprecedented Donation to Homeless US Veterans
Merriman, owner of the ever-popular clothing brand Lights Out, will call on many of his brand affiliations and organizations for this year's coat collection for homeless US Vets. On Saturday, November 11th, Merriman will join forces with The University of Maryland Athletics Department, University Relations and UMD student-athletes to collect gently-used coats, hats, scarves and other cold weather clothing at designated entrances of Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium at 2:00 pm prior to the Michigan game at 3:30 pm. This year's installment of Merriman's Annual Coat Drive is special as it will benefit homeless Veterans in the greater Maryland and Washington DC area. The "Lights On" Foundation has identified a number of local non-profit organizations that specifically cater to homeless and displaced US Veterans. Making an unprecedented donation, the coat drive will help those Veterans less fortunate during the coming winter months. "We are working fearlessly to make 'Lights On' history this year, states Merriman. "This has always been special to me and donating to our less fortunate Vets is of upmost priority," continues the UM alum. Initiated while still a student at UMD, Merriman's Lights On Foundation has collected more than 25,000 coats over the past 14 years to benefit numerous communities in the local area as well as those affected by Hurricane Sandy in the New York and New Jersey area in 2012. Merriman's Lights On Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for youth and to help the homeless. He donates time, money and other resources throughout the country by increasing opportunities for children to lead healthy and fulfilling lives through his foundation. By building corporate partnerships within the community, Merriman is able to provide financial assistance to projects focusing primarily on helping the homeless and children in need. www.lightsoutbrand.com End
