Dr. Carmack is passionate about the need for veterinary hospice and palliative care and is honored to provide these services to pet families in the Hampton Roads region. Dr. Carmack stated that "Pet families truly appreciate the comfort-focused care that veterinary hospice can provide for geriatric or terminally ill patients. Being able to provide families with more personalized options to make their pet's end of life journey a peaceful and respectful one is very rewarding. The advanced training the certification program has provided will allow us to do more for our patients and their families as well as to actively participate in the research and continued development of the veterinary hospice movement and the human hospice field." Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice is also welcoming Dr. Jeanette Schacher as a full-time hospice veterinarian as the practice continues to expand their services. Dr. Schacher has been working with Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice since 2015 and is currently pursuing her certification in veterinary acupuncture. About Dr. Carmack: Tyler Carmack, DVM, CVA, CVFT, CHPV is a graduate of Cox High School, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship in small animal internal medicine and surgery and a specialty internship in ophthalmology. When returning to Hampton Roads in 2011, Dr. Carmack formed Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice and the Hampton Roads Pet Loss Support Group to offer a more compassionate and personalized service to assist pet families throughout the end-of-life process and to provide on-going support after the loss of a loved one. She has completed post-doctoral certifications in veterinary acupuncture and veterinary food therapy in addition to veterinary hospice and palliative care. Dr. Carmack has also served on the Board of Directors for the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care since 2015 and lectures about topics related to animal hospice throughout the country.
