BOSTON - Oct. 27, 2017 - PRLog -- The Model G20 Youth Leadership Summit, which is entering its 3rd year this coming February, plans on welcoming over 200 global students to the Boston area for the 5-day, non-profit program. While the reasons to attend are varied, most students agreed that the chance to meet others from around the world was a top attraction.

"I really wanted to see if American teens were like how they are on television," said one international student.

As an added bonus, students have the opportunity to win $15,000 in scholarship awards based on overall performance in the program. Last year students were awarded prizes for multiple categories including best team and best overall delegates.

While politics and international affairs are the core topics within the Model G20, students are able to attend with little starting knowledge of the two thanks to the inclusion of online courses leading up the program. These modules are self-paced and adaptive to help ease students into their newly acquired delegate roles. The program itself, which will take place at Harvard Medical School, features 3 days of lectures, team building activities, and hands-on workshops. The final two days require the teens to put what they've learned into action as they negotiate agreements with other countries and present their results through a live-streamed mock press conference.

From public speaking to research and writing skills, the Model G20 Committee ensures that students learn from some of the best professors in the country. Last year the program was honored to have more than six Harvard professors and faculty leading student discussions, classes, and lectures. Knovva Academy hopes to double that number for the 2018 program.

The Model G20 was created by a group of international millennials who came to Boston for their own educational opportunities and ended up staying to create this and other programs at Knovva Academy. With their passion for education and diverse backgrounds, these dedicated millennials soon decided that they wanted to help teens become global citizens.

One way Knovva Academy works to build this global competence is by ensuring that students act as delegates of countries different from their own. According to Benson Chang, Co-founder of Knovva Academy, to pen plans and agreements, students will need to effectively understand the needs and background of the country they're representing. "They'll have to put themselves into different shoes," he said.

As students travel home, the lessons they've learned during the five-day program return with them, staying ingrained for a lifetime.

"I found out that Americans are really different from how I thought they'd be and they're so welcoming to me," said another global student before leaving the Model G20 Summit to return to China.

Early-bird pricing for residential and local students ends November 1st, 2018. Financial aid is available. For more information check out http://www.modelg20.org.
