Obama Insider Hardaway Named to 40 Under 40 Rising Star List
Hardaway, a Chicago native, currently leads public relations efforts for New York Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, serving as his director of communications and senior advisor. With Hardaway securing over $24 million worth of publicity and placing Jeffries in front of more than 342 million television viewers worldwide, he became a nationally-recognized figure in the Democratic Party, ascending to Congressional Black Caucus leadership in his second term and House Democratic leadership in his third term.
Hardaway said: "You can will yourself to do anything, I truly believe that. You make your own luck, and that's something I've spent my entire life working to do. I am incredibly thankful to my parents - Freda and Reginald Hardaway - and good people who have been in my life like Dick Durbin, Barack Obama and Quintin Primo. I am forever grateful to them for believing in me and giving me so much. I hope this serves as inspiration to others as proof that anything is possible."
Hardaway is a Capitol Hill veteran who began his career as an early part of President Obama's team in Chicago. Hardaway worked in multiple capacities for the 44th President, including spending time in his Senate office, as a fundraiser on his inaugural presidential campaign, as an aide on President Obama's transition team and as a fundraiser during Obama's first term in the White House. Hardaway also provided communications counsel as a press aide to Bill Nelson, a senior senator from Florida who sat on the Intelligence Committee.
Hardaway is a board member of RFK Young Leaders and is creator of the Congressional Caucus on Black Men & Boys. He is also deeply involved with UNICEF's Next Generation.
